Default RES to REG question

Hi - going from a RES month to a REG month next. Last day of current month is LC. Is the first day of the new REG month considered a hard-non fly day? My understanding is that there is no "golden x days" with a line.

Thanks!

“Hard non-fly day” means a non-fly day on which a pilot may not be inversely assigned to a rotation (e.g., vacation, APD day, reserve PD day, ALPA, legal duty, MLOA, or golden X-day).

Unless one of those is on your schedule on the 1st day of the Reg Bid-Month, no.

Thanks. I guess what I was trying to figure out is if you are automatically released at 6 am or need to call CS.

The only auto-rest at 0600 is if you are going into a golden X day or a vacation day. A REG day off does not fit either one of those definitions.

As an alternative strategy, look at working a RES spillover rotation into REG days off. That pays double pay on the REG days, like a GS. RES Spillover rotations are all proffers and that step of coverage is before GS, so even if you've already had one more more GS in the RES month you can grab more premium pay before anyone wanting a GS gets a shot at it. Pay on the LC day(s) pays towards RES guarantee, so make sure to pick a trip that places most of the block/credit in the REG month.

You can only do a RES spillover rotation from LC days to REG days off. You cannot do it from X days to REG days off. The rotation must report on a LC day.

There any sort of PCS stuff you have to do for this or does scheduling just call you?

For spillover? You have stuff to do. On the Reserve Preferences PCS page, second from the bottom is Spillover Preferences. This is the only way to raise your hand for a LC to REG day off spillover rotation. When a trip gets covered that meets your preferences scheduling will call. If you don't answer then generally you have 12 minutes to call them back. It's a proffer so you can answer and look things over and then decline or accept.

Am I going crazy?

I got a res trip assigned tomorrow morning. I'm on regular long call. Why am I getting 4 phone calls at 3am to notify me of this trip more than 24 hrs out?

Remember, your only obligation on a long call assignment is to notify if unfit NLT 3 hours prior to report or just report for duty. Don’t need to ack.
