Reserve for Dummies
#4121
This is why I hate reserve. I shouldn’t have to be “good” at it. I only do it a couple times per year, and I always get screwed…. Usually by my own errors. Was 8 hours from home yesterday, leaving daughters wedding venue (wedding was Sat), thinking I was good until at least 1800 today. I bid and planned it out that way. Could have bid today as an x day. Guess I should have. 8 hours 45 min driveway arrival to driveway departure. Livin’ the dream….
Don't mean this to sound unsympathetic in the least. I get the frustration. But... You could say the same thing about being Regular. PBS has an entire manual to learn how to bid, and a failure to learn PBS skills can definitely screw yourself. Once you have your bid, there are other things to learn, like iCrew... Plus Drops, WS proffers, Auto Accept/Ack, Swap Board ops, PD's, APD's, IVD's, PB day washing, etc. Just saying there are big things to 'learn', both major and nuanced, regardless of what system you choose to live in. People tend to get comfortable in one system or another. Not typically both.
Congrats on your Daughter's wedding. Hope the walk down the aisle and Daddy/Daughter dance were special.

"I shouldn't have to be good at it" aka you are too lazy to read and understand our contract.
You're part of the reason crew scheduling feels enabled to incessantly violate our contract. You freely admit to not knowing better. Those 8 hours and 45 minutes could have been saved by 8 minutes and 45 seconds of reading 23.S.

God forbid you read the plethora of resources to understand what you're doing when you click those buttons in PBS. The contract is very clear. The SRH spells it all out. The PBS handbook holds your hand.

Thats a little harsh. It’s complicated, and does take some time to learn the nuances. Even experienced bidders learn something new occasionally.

You can run the same 10 line bid in PBS for years and get pretty good results if you focus on what you want, vs what other people get.

RES note: called to be NC for my SC and they tagged me with notification of "pre rest" on single X day so I have a 30 in 168 rest. Jokes on them X day move is going to strand that 6 hours of rest and I'm notified now.

Correct, you have no obligation to check your schedule or be aware of a Res oration while in a Regular month. IOW, if 1 Oct was a LC day, you could not have an assignment before 1800, because the 10-hour carveout does not apply.
As for the SC, need more info. have you been on LC since the 1st? Or have you had an X-day in there somewhere?

I would have not been aware of all this and probably not known to research the CNO vs live CS leaving a VM thing without this forum, so thanks for the help everyone!

I had some training mixed in with a few LC days but long story short they agreed I was correct and removed the assignment and put me on 30 hours rest.

Yes…like avoid 3-day trips. Then get a ‘4 day’ that’s actually a 3 day that gets in just after midnight. Some lessons you just have to learn by screwing it up.

Heh, I like it! This pre-posted rest thing is lame.
