Does this check?

I was initially on off day going into LC. Had auto accept and acknowledge for a rotation in GS coverage that started on my first day of reserve just after 10 AM. I was initially awarded (F #1) after I accepted it over the phone and ARCOS at 1 AM. But could not enter my PIN in iCrew. CS told me I was later rejected because I no longer had 10 hrs rest between award and report since I was on LC for an hour between midnight and 1 am.

Making things more confusing they initially had removed 1200 SC from my schedule during the initial award. But when they took back the trip I got re-assigned 1200 SC at 0100 via micrew CNO.

This doesn't check. I see 2 scenarios:

1) You previously had acknowledged your 1200 SC during your X-day, after which you enter rest 18 hours prior to the start of that SC.

2) You had not previously acknowledged your 1200 SC, in which case your rest is interrupted at the stroke of midnight when your LC begins, at which point you go directly back into rest for your 1200 SC.

Under neither scenario were you on LC for a 1200 SC between midnight and 1AM of the same day.

HOWEVER, it is at scheduling discretion to deny a GS that would wipe out a same-day RES assignment. They didn't HAVE to give you the GS that morning. That part checks, but the explanation they gave you doesn't.

Thanks. I *did* acknowledge my SC the day prior so I should have been established in rest and thus able to take the GS? I did not have any same day assignment (just the SC) when I was initially awarded the GS. Worth a STS?

I'd say STS given the explanation you were given.

But the SC is an assignment. They don't have to award you a GS if you already have a RES assignment on the same day (including SC.)

FWIW I'm citing SRH pg 49:

"A reserve pilot will be awarded a same-day GS without regard to a reserve assignment already on their schedule for the next two days, i.e., a reserve rotation, short call, or YS award.

o Similarly, a reserve pilot will be awarded a next-day GS without regard to a reserve assignment already on their schedule for the following day."

I'm currently struggling to find the PWA reference for this, but I'm quite sure it exists.

Thanks I'll do that! I guess my question to CS would be why would I get the 1 am call to acknowledge the GS if they are gonna turn around and say they will deny it for *unnamed reasons*

It's a fair question now that ARCOS callouts are now supposedly pre-screened for legal violations. My understanding is that you only get the call now if the trip could legally be placed on your schedule. What happened to you seems to be counter to that.

Edit to add that auto-ack on a GS doesn't do anything inside 18 hours. Based on your post this wouldn't change anything, but is worth mentioning.

Edit to my edit: "auto-ack on a GS doesn't do anything inside 12 hours."

PWA 12.Z.1.c. Note two.

I think somewhere in the assignment shenanigans my rest for SC got removed and somehow turned back into LC (0000-0100) and my new rest became 0100-1200 which makes no sense.

Yea this doesn't make sense. Technically I think they could run SC coverage at 1AM and find your YS (assuming you had one) for a SC as 1200. But this is fishy and I would send all applicable reports (pilot assist, STS) for it.

Is it possible PWA 23.Q.12 was the reason they took it away and whoever you talked to didn’t actually know the reason so made up something non-sensical?

“Crew Scheduling may correct errors and omissions in a same-day, next-day, or second-day GS or GSWC award(s) following the award of the rotation and ending two hours prior to report...a. Such corrections will not generate a rotation guarantee for the rotation removed.”

Not sure if this is what happened, but I’ve personally witnessed CS take a GS off someone’s schedule before using this clause as their reason. Still worth an STS.
