On a related note - people need to add to the contract survey that there needs to be a provision for reserves, at their own discretion, be able to convert a golden X day back to a standard X day. A golden X day only is functionally useful for the first day following LC. I've missed out on IA's because I had a stretch of 3 golden days when 2 of them were pointless and just blocking me from getting the IA call. Also, there have been times where I've wanted SC on that last LC day and been denied due to the golden X day following. There is no reason that I shouldn't be able to go in days and weeks after the initial golden day bids and simply remove that designation. It actually benefits the company since it provides slightly more usability for those reserves on their last day.
Again, great points.

Roper, you can do at most 2 sets of 3 or 3 sets of 2. And if you have things like CQ or vacation, Mil Leave, you have less golden days to place as well...

Also, having a golden X- day does NOT prevent you from getting SC, it just moves you to the bottom of the list, and if they need a 1-day pilot, and they are have golden days following, the junior pilot(s) can still get SC. SRH pg 104. I only say this to alleve any angst you may have at any 'guarantee' being lost.

Side question - if single day of reserve followed by golden day - don't you automatically get released at 1200? And if assigned a 1000 report and use the 2 hr NC are you functionally unusable?

I get SC with one day of availability any time I have one day of availability. Nearly without fail I then get a one day assignment, too.

Where did we land on ones obligations if they accidentally acknowledge a SC assignment in micrew, when not notified in any other way? I know micrew is not official, but folks had gotten calls from the CPO in the past. Is there a final answer to this, preferably written somewhere?

Thanks in advance.

Acknowledging an assignment is acknowledging an assignment, no matter how you did it. CS has no further obligation to contact you since you acknowledged the assignment.

No offense, but how do you accidentally acknowledge something? Why click anything that on that screen without fully understanding what it is?

I was under the impression that you would be released at noon before a golden day and the earliest you could start is 1000 if it’s a single day of reserve. Day before an X-day, you can be tagged with a 1000-1600 or even a 1600-2200 SC. It does say you are moved to the bottom of list, but I saw over half a dozen short callers with one day of availability on a Tuesday no less.

Yes, a single day of reserve by itself is nearly completely unusable for SC. Most people don’t have a single day of LC by itself. The most common ways to do it in PBS is after training or some other sort of work period (like Velvet), or stranded at the end of a bid period where you are either REG the next month or RES and bid the first day off. And of course post-PBS you can end up stranding days via PD/PB/APD/IVD.

Outside that most everyone going into one day of LC is doing so off a stretch of LC, so even going into a golden X day you can be hit with a 0600-1159 SC (or earlier) and the auto-release from SC at 1200 is irrelevant.

Also completely irrelevant is having a golden X day BEFORE starting a stretch of LC. That is still simply a non-fly day and subject to those applicable pre 18 hour provisions.
