Reserve for Dummies

Sounds like there was a pilot available in the matching days of availability group. However, if there was not, and you (thought you) were otherwise the only option, that golden day following absolutely would have affected it. Hope that helps.

Looking for some clarification regarding Inverse Assignment with Conflict and how it applies to reserves. Basically, I was assigned a trip on the first day of a reserve block (roughly 24 hours prior to departure). Shortly following the assignment I picked up an IA beginning that day (the last X day prior to my assigned trip beginning). I know that a PB day and at least one day of premium is warranted, but should I receive credit for the entire conflicting trip? As a line holder 23.U is pretty straightforward, but the reserve application is clearly over my head. I’ve asked some folks and have gotten different answers from each. Any clarification is much appreciated.

Reserves do not have a trip guarantee. Nor is there such a thing as an IA with conflict for reserves. You'll get what you actually fly on your X day paid over reserve guarantee, and all the rest of the trip will pay towards whatever month's RES guarantee those days fall on. Trip credit pays towards whatever month the last day of the trip is on towards RES guarantee. You will get zero pay for the conflicting reserve assignment.

Realistically you never should have been awarded the IA trip, but hey if they give it to you and you want it go for it. The IA was on his last X day, and the rsv assignment was the next day. They have to remove a next day reserve assignment to accommodate a same day IA/GS.

The assigned trip was dropped. The GS was then awarded. There is no conflict. A reserve does not really own a trip like a regular line holder. In fact a little known aspect of the contract allows a regular line holder to take a trip from a reserve pilot if the regular line pilot became eligible for the reserves trip via removal from another trip even if the regular pilot is pay protected. Only once inside 12 hours to report does the reserve need to consent.

My response was because you said he never should have been awarded the trip. He is entitled to a same day IA/GS that drops a next day reserve trip, even though it’s not a “with conflict” assignment. Had they not awarded him the trip he would have gotten assignment pay for it.
