I was thinking the ongoing train wreck at USair, and to a slightly lesser extent UAL

The path has been set, the results have not.

Any chance they might sweeten the PERP to get the numbers they need?

Hope you are correct, but as I stated last week, this is the rumor that was floating around.
Look back 20 pages or so.
Also said it was not a great rumor but one none-the-less.

Given this history of airlines do you really think that we will not have some adjustment to the 2010 sked? I know I do.

The trigger for that few is less than 153 seats. Wait and see what comes out. It may be all for not if we get a good amount of PERPS and or a LOA with the ability to train guys for post-SOC starting this Sept. (Those would be good things for the bottom guys)

With triggers i was including the training costs associated with the flow agreement. It costs money to furlough which is why i dont think they will do it for a small number of furloughs. You mentioned "like CAL did", CAL doesnt have anything that effects them if they furlough. They can do it at almost no cost and they are in contract talks to boot. CALs a different animal than our situation.

Either way, theres nothing we can do about it as pilots except to never agree to further scope relaxation, especially when our pilot group is looking at staffing problems.

No idea

True, but like I said they could keep a 150 or so out with current projections to make it cost effective by an inch.

I know this effects you and I hope it does not happen. I just hope that the economy really grows and we will be strongly adding capacity next summer.
Problem is that all of the "Thinkers" are coming out saying we are nowhere near the end. I agree.
I always though we would see a bump late this year and early next with another prolonged downturn lasting a few years before we really start to grow again. (read very flat growth before a good growth period of more than 4% GDP)

IMHO, if the economy weakens then oil demand weakens and supplies rise and hopefully we can get some cost breathing room through the winter.

But there are a tremendous amount of threats to this economy right now and a few months ago some predicted it to improve by 2010, a few in 2009 and a good number of analyst predicted and feared a dead cat bounce going through the summer. Looks like its going to be more like a dead cat twitch followed by it being runover by a sanitation truck.

I don't think 2010 will be a real recovery or an economic expansion. For every positive action there will be a negative reaction whether it be oil, interest rates, inflation, etc.

So, I was bored and started reading our contract about the F word. I was hoping to be as well versed as ACL!! I need some clarification. There is a part that talks about being able to furlough if thing "beyond the company control" happen. It also says that things that do not count as "beyond company control" was the economic condition among other things. What does that mean? I thought that they company could not furlough due to the merger, but they could do to the economy. I am confused!! AGAIN
