Delta Hiring News

Here's a question for all you gurus who seem to be much more well-informed than myself: I'm a line check airman for a regional, and this past year I have been doing a lot more line checks, FAA observations, and other work from the jumpseat. Because of this, I've been blocking and logging far fewer hours than my other regional airline counterparts... Like only averaging 20 hours of block per month.
Does anyone think this would reflect negatively on my application with Delta? On the one hand it seems that conducting LCA duties would be a positive thing, but on the other hand i'm just not logging that many hours (I obviously don't log time from the jumpseat).
Like most everyone else on this forum, I'm just trying to figure out the secret required to get a call, and am willing to change my work patterns if need be to accomplish it.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Especially since you can't change it. I'd just see if the application allows some way to highlight the LCA/FAA observation functions.

^^^^^the above is a fair point to be sure....but what of the computer screening that could potentially (and mindlessly) leave this Gents app in the "pile" due to the fact that the hours in the last 12 and/or 24 months are very low. This is my own problem retiring out of a military staff job. I may have a good resume, but with less than 200 hours in the last year, that may just be why my application never makes it past the computerized screening.
This may have nothing to do with the above, but it certainly should be considered as a potential "gotcha".
Just my two cents, and it may only be worth one...

This is my main concern. Is my app buried due to the lack of recent hours (compared to other regional guys)? I guess it's good that the apps are eventually hand scored. I'll see about making sure my description of job duties somehow justifies my lack of flying.
Sink r8, thank you for your encouragement.

You're welcome, BrasiliaFlyer.
To Alfred's point... Again, no expert on hiring, and I don't even know what the application looks like. I just think that the type of individuals they seem to focus on (LCA's and CP's on the civilian side, and successful people in the military) by definition had jobs that involved less flying. If it weren't so, flight time would be the only discriminator, and they'd be filtering out the people that are here now.
I can't intelligently comment on Delta's threshold for a minimum amount of recent flying, but I suspect it's quite low. If you meet the total time, and your functions imply less line flying in recent history, I wouldn't sweat it. I fly almost exclusively with newhires (mostly flow-throughs for now, but some off the street), and they all seem to have strong resumés including some management function. Several have mentioned flying less in recent years. Not one told me that Delta was really, really impressed with their recent flight time. The guy I flew with yesterday was a flow-through, but he flew more in a few months at Delta, than in several years at his regional (where he was a sim instructor).
BTW... based on my own experience, and although it was a slightly different process back then, I should never have gotten the interview, on paper. I wasn't a LCA, and was at the low end of competitive stats. Aaaaaalmost had (what people thought was) the minimum turbine PIC time, but not quite. If I had focused on what people were saying on APC at the time, I might have been tempted not to apply. A lot of this game is about complying with all the app's instructions, not giving them an excuse to not hire you, not getting wrapped up in speculation about who might/might not get an interview, and investing your energy into being very well prepared when the interview comes.
Good luck to all!

Here's exactly what AK said to a gent that asked a question at WIA similar to what you asking.
Guy asks "you mentioned 100 hrs is the minimum, but for pure civilian regions guys what is the preferred hours?" AK responds: "well for regional guys we would expect to see 400-500 hours knowing the type flying you guys do."
Guy responds "unfortunately sir due to being on reserve, I only flew 300 hundred hours last year, but dead headed over 100 hrs. Is this going to hurt me since I'm not at the 400-500 mark?"
AK responds: "you should be fine with that amount."
This is a question I was wondering to since I don block a lot on reserve as well. The problem is that AK stated a regional guy should get 400-500 hrs, but then he stated something different after the guy asked the question. so this leaves me to wonder if the guys like yourself, him, and me are really just being overlooked because of something many of us can't control?
