Pinnacle pilots who participate in the SSP in seniority order will be exempted from the pilot candidate initial screening process that applies to other Delta pilot candidates. The content and schedule of the SSP may change
, but the interview process is anticipated to contain the testing and panel interview elements of Delta’s current “Day 1” pilot selection process, a review of a Pinnacle pilot’s employment and training records and potentially certain elements of Delta’s current “Day 2” interview process.

It doesn't really say much, but the testing and panel parts of the interview are the biggest parts. Again, I don't know if I've heard of someone not making it through day 2.

Honestly, it's really surreal reading these e-mails, as these updates are interspaced with talk of displacements, attrition, and rate of aircraft removal from service (with a few 900s arriving) and base closures.

It looks like shortly before the SSP interviews started, there is an entire memo devoted to discussing the program including topics to study and a massive list of books to read. That should have at least been a red flag for anyone going to interview that it was going to be a real interview.
Don't let facts get in the way of a good story.

That memo came out slightly after the process started, as pilots weren't filling out applications properly. The real issue was at the roadshows the union kept insisting it wasn't the full interview, and it was a streamline selection process. It should not have been called that, since without any details, pilots had no idea what to expect. The only model was the SSP at PSA, which was a handshake type deal. It wasn't till after the process started that the memos, and instructions started coming out.

That said, Delta is giving another chance to these first pilots who didn't have the foresight that later pilots did.

They (probably correctly) figure most won't bother to try again anyway.

The facts were that TW and the MEC were selling the pilot group that this was a PSA style handshake and a class date during the bankruptcy roadshows. Vote in the concessions and get basically a flow to Delta. The first few interview groups went in and got blindsided and that's when the union and company started putting out emails to warn everyone to prepare for a real deal interview. But by then the damage was already done.

If someone can confirm when the first interviews actually happened it'll help, but e-mails talking about when interviews would start mixed in with the ones saying it was a real interview don't seem to support that timeline.

That said, I know a lot of people didn't bother signing up to get e-mails, especially the more senior group that would have tended to be in the first batches.

I never heard that it was going to be a flow myself though. I do know a lot of guys thought they were qualified enough that an interview would be a piece of cake though.

The proof is that the first groups went in unprepared, and the next groups went in with a different attitude. How could so many get it wrong, if they weren't given bad information?

Not sure on the first interviews, the first union email I have that references SSP is November 2, 2013 and says

"SSP – Additional Information

As many of you have no doubt heard, Delta made offers of employment to a number of our most senior pilots last week pursuant to the SSP. This is very good news. We anticipate that these pilots will start class in either January or February 2014. "

I would think that means those were probably the first interviews.

The first email I have that talks about problems with the SSP is June 6, 2014 related to the EtD program launch and says in part

"Our primary concern with the SSP, however, continues to be our low interview success rate – highlighted by the rejection of a significant number of candidates whose professional records are beyond reproach."

I'm not sure the timeline actually matters, there were definitely some guys who got the job at Delta who probably shouldn't have and there were guys who didn't get the job at Delta who probably should have.

Will DGI success rates be similar to SSP success rates? Only time will tell.

Also instructive is how many went back for the second interview and didn’t course correct. I flew with too many of those guys, and it was always tough to extricate myself from discussions about interview experience and prep without highlighting how unprepared most of them were and how little they’d done to insure success when they went back for a second try.

The double no's were denied a second interview.

Again, everyone, don't let facts get in the way of a good story.

Wonder if the guys denied a second will get access to the third.
