The vacation buy back is only for captains and 175 FO. All those training pipelines are currently full but won't have enough bodies in june. This is just a simple case of mismanaged resources.

I used to blame the "ME" generation for being impatient, but after talking to a few of them, I realized that it is not them being unrealistically impatient. They have just learned from us. They have watched the industry for awhile and know that there is little stability. They have learned that a terrorist attack or a government regulation could turn this industry on its head overnight.

This is a game of musical chairs. The winner is the person that is in the seat that they want when the music stops. That is why they want to be in the 175, and want a short reserve time, and want a fast upgrade. They just want to be in the best situation possible when the industry collapses on itself again.

Anyone that has been in the industry for a few years already knows this. With social media and message boards like this, the new generation is learning this much faster than we did.

I'm the last pilot on earth who would defend the actions of the PSA pilot group, but let's get real here. The term scab has a very specific meaning, and they don't meet that definition.

If the industry collapses again, they still will be in disanvantage. Why?

One type in a plane that doesn't required that much flying. Bottom of the seniority list, low flight time. Better qualification pilots competing with them.

Who would you hire? A e-175 pilot with 2,000 TT or a E-145 pilot that has ATR/EMJ/Posible a CRJ type with 4-5,000 TT?

Seniority and money is everything, not the plane. I used to fly a C-172 for 3 hrs a day for $200...

To be fair to management at all 3 wholly owneds, they have wanted to do more to attract pilots by raising pay and making contract improvements. The problem is that every time they run something up the ladder to AAG and DP, they get stonewalled. They know they have a giant problem looming. If none of the wholly owneds can hire, then what? I can't understand how it's not simple for them...

1) RJs at your wholly owneds are cheaper than RJs at mainline. Even with huge pay increases at your wholly owneds.

2) Who else is going to do the flying for cheaper AND be able to staff it? They can't outsource the flying at this point.

These beauties? And to think, some people are worried about other airlines trying to get into our crew rooms. If they want in, they'd better bring hazmat suits.
