Don't die during the interview. Only way you could mess it up.

I don't understand the gripe here. If you're junior at any airline, you get the short end of the stick. I think last June, the future of our airline was clearly in question. Why did you come then? Especially for a ERJ spot regardless of base? Why are guys complaining they didn't get the base or plane they wanted? You're new. Sometimes you don't get what you want. I want to fly the 777 at a major, but I can't walk in there day one and demand I fly the 777, then cry about it when I don't get it. The airline industry is not a career filled with certainty and/or stability. Especially for the junior pilots. Was this not understood before choosing this career and airline?

I got hired in June of 2014. I was the first person to go through the new interview process. I know because I got an email 2 days before my interview telling me that everything had changed. They didn't do the psych eval, the coordination test, their old knowledge test, or a simulator test. All I did was a new test that was designed to be like the ATP written. The thought process is that if they are going to pay for your training to take the ATP written they would like to know you can pass one before they spend a bunch of money on training. I didn't have a simulator ride, I imagine because I had about 250 hours part 135 in a Caravan.

Last I heard they try to fly you in and out on the same day so there is no hotel. If you did have to get a hotel, that was not covered. They do pay for a hotel during training (many airlines don't). I believe this was noted in the material they sent me before the interview. If you don't have prior 135 or 121 time there is a good chance you will do a simulator eval. During the interview I took a written test that was very similar to the ATP (it's designed that way), wrote a paragraph about not being tired for work (to make sure I could write English mostly), and answered a series of basic knowledge questions from two guys then gave an ILS approach briefing off of a Jepp plate.

No idea why anyone would come here. I was part of Expressjet for 8 years and don't see any reason why someone would choose this place over somewhere with better bonuses and a quick upgrade. They're parking planes with nothing on the horizon and all management ever said was "keep up the good work" and "we're leading our competitors with on time numbers". Sad story really...

Hey management: according to what study are you basing this claim on? Where is the evidence?
Wake up.. This is nothing but pure propaganda. "Hey, look at all these young bucks! You too can be right here!" -- and then you get here and realize you've been cheated. Nearly every captain you fly with is old enough to be your parent and have kids your age. A-Tech is littered with CR2s, branding removed and awaiting return to the leasers. And then there's the ERJ side which is fixing to completely close shop in 2-3 years unless they pull some magic strings and win United's heart back.
Management is doing everything to keep their jobs as this ship sinks. Nevermind the ambitions of the pilot flying their airplane. Who cares if they're forever sitting right seat in a shrinking company. As long as they keep their jobs a while longer… So, they're appealing to the next generation through social media. Just look on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. ExpressJet is preying on the next generation of naive and unsuspecting pilots, luring them to a company that won't provide for them what they could easily have at another regional => generous movement that promises career advancement/opportunities.
Be very cautious before you sign on the dotted line with ExpressJet.

Best thing would be merge with Skywest. Union is nice and I appreciate all the work they are doing but if it needed to be sacrificed to move forward, so be it. Tired of being the redheaded step child. If a fully merged list came out along with going to their work rules I'd be a chest thumping yes voter! Tired of seeing flying keep being handed out to everyone but us.

Listen to this guy, newbs. ExpressJet is doing the "full court press" to attract pilots with pretty pictures, smiling faces and empty claims on "Best Trained" "Most Respected". Just take a look at the current company homepage:

It is true that XJT pilots are very well trained. I left for another airline and was disappointed by their training program. XJT was by far the best training I've ever received.
