Question for the group-

Will we run Europe flying as a separate bid group I.E. BOS 320 Europe? Or have all Boston A320 guys be Europe qualified?

Or......

Be a normal airline and have worldwide training for all A320 pilots.

Check airman told me in his circles the word is it’d be a separate bid category to minimize training associated with it. He said he heard 40 in JFK and 40 in BOS. No idea if true, but kind of checks with how we do FLL intl flying.

That would be a sweet deal for guys to bid RSV.

Bid long call and only have 4-5 flights a day they could possibly use you for.

So if my staus freeze/ equipment freeze expires June of 2020, can I bid something in August 2019 and be awarded it to happen after June 2020?

Or

Since I'm under a freeze until June 2020, i will have to wait until system bid/ August 2020 to be awarded anything?

( yes, i will be contacting the union with this)

It says the freeze begins on the first day of training, including home study. You cannot be awarded an upgrade/downgrade/transition into a new aircraft "if the effective date of the award is prior to the end of the freeze" (there are exceptions as previously discussed). The real unknown is what the effective dates of the annual system bids will be, because it is not specified in the CBA and is up to the company. It just says each system bid "may contain multiple bid effective dates." Great. Is that some in January, some in March, June, October, all December? Who knows...good luck planning your transition or upgrade with that info. Or base swaps. Or anything, until that bid comes out.

As of now, I can bid each quarter and plan on it taking 6 months to take effect. Now, if I want to change something, I have to wait til August, then it could take effect as late as December of the following year.

So in your case maybe, maybe not. If there are bid effective dates for after June, then yes, you should be able to. If not, you'd have to wait for a supplemental or the next system bid with a later effective date. That's why this new system could potentially be screwy, and the language and specifications for how it will work leave a lot of unknowns for planning purposes for the pilot side in cases like yours.

I’m sure Jetblue will find a way to make those bids go very junior.

24.V basically leaves it up to the company how they want to do it: a separate SQ class within base, or make the whole base a SQ (like FLL). I’m guessing they won’t make all of JFK/BOS a SQ for a handful of europe routes. Especially initially. But I am obviously not in the loop. I just have rumor and the CBA to go off of for my predictions.

Seems like it could end up being very screwy for pilots if they have to wait until the next August to change their base/equipment if something in their life changes or the they decide they don't like it there anymore, then they could have to wait until the end of the following calendar year for it to take effect.

I predict it will be a cluster. I don't know why the union agreed to this change. I just don't see any benefit for the pilot group or the company.
Just so there is no confusion, you DO NOT need to wait for a system bid to change your base. You can "attempt" to change your base every month via email. Each month posted with the pairings and pilots bid awards is a spreadsheet with each pilot who asked for a base change. If someone from FLL wants JFK and someone from JFK wants FLL they make the switch with each other.
