Did you sign a promissory note during training saying you would pay it back if you quit early? I heard some classes this past year were not being asked to sign it.

Well, you have the option of quitting and never paying, or quitting and paying. I heard that some just quit, Mesa kept their last paycheck, and that was the end of it. But that was fairly recent, I think, so there may be more to it than that.

But don't take my word for it, that was all third hand info, and I do not work for Mesa.

It will be with your pria. Most airlines don't check the not rehirable box because of fears of being sued...but I heard Mesa did if you don't pay your training contract. Other regionals won't care if that box is checked, but the majors might.

I was a June 2014 hire, and they came after me when I resigned 4 months later. Look at the wording in the contract carefully. I did manage to get credit from my date of hire, although initially they tried to pro-rate it only from the date of training. They sent me a couple e-mails, and then started the legal process before I resolved it with them.

Not eligible for rehire is not supposed to be in the PRIA paperwork, unless you were terminated.

So did you end up paying them back $8000?

Can you let us know the outcome?

Why would anyone sign a training contract in this environment? Is Mesa the only regional requiring one? I know Republic dropped their's a while back.

I'm looking at Mesa only because I live close to Dallas but I will cross it off my list if a training contract is required. Seems kind of crazy to require one in the current environment. It's one more reason to avoid a particular regional when you would think they would be changing things to make it a more attractive place to work, not less attractive.

Don't quote me, but it may be quietly going away. I know a guy who started last June, and he said no one in his class was asked to sign the PN. Mesa sends a copy marked on every page with a "SAMPLE" watermark, probably to suggest the potential still exists. Several pages back, someone from Mesa suggested there is a way around paying it back, but didn't elaborate publicly. You might be able to find his post and ask about it via PM.
