9 10 month FO CLT and gone.
For those it works for good.
For those it does not; it will not improve. Do not stay like an abused spouse. There are a lot of better options, and PSA is not going to improve.
For those that are looking to go there, Only consider it if it is the only airline to hire you and you are able to live in base. Enough has been shared by others and you can filter the biases.
Good luck all and goodbye.

Great for a RSV guy, but suck for a line guy, IMO....

CDO flying is a lifestyle choice. Some pilots like to be home every day with the family. With per diem included it pays more than reserve but less than a normal line. But you must enjoy sleeping during the day or being perpetually tired. Not for me.

I did CDO's at my last gig for about 2 years. They went pretty senior as they paid 1/2 Duty. But you are right, it definitely is a lifestyle choice and not for everyone. I'm a bit nocturnal so I enjoyed them. Sounds like they would be better than RSV for a new hire at PSA, but from what I'm hearing, they aren't being built in most bases? TYS, CLT?
I quickly looked over 117. Looks much better than the old rest regs. I could see less abuse from scheds on a CDO line vs. RSV? Although, even on RSV under 117 looks to be much better than the old regs.

You could conceivably build yourself some sort of CDO line if you were a round 1 line holder. But you could also build yourself a much better line than a CDO line if you were in that position... I put a CDO into my line next month. No one here seems to like them, but it worked well for me because I had stuff to do both of the days and it will allow me to do that and still make some money. 77 hour line with 15 days off next month. First break I've taken in a while and I'm looking forward to it.
Also, if they go to someone on SCR, then they get the day before it and after it off. It works better for them, and it burns a reserve each day, making it more likely that days will go critical or that they JRM.

Most people leave them in open time as part of an informal agreement to hope that they go to a junior man situation. If you pick up a CDO via a junior man call, you get paid 14 hours to fly it.

I have taken 2 JRMs for CDO's, and was paid 14 hours for each one.
