Don't think there was a class today. Next one should start next Monday.

I'm a few weeks from applying. I want Knoxville if PSA is the choice. I plan on commuting from Nashville. Are any of you guys commuting from Nashville and what is your experience with that commute? I need to live in a small suburb town so that rent and other city fees will allow me to live comfortably. I'm assuming open time is still 200%.

200% open time? At PoSA? No.

There are several Nashville commuters, I'm pretty sure most of them drive... that's what I would do if it were me. Open time is 125%; if it goes critical with a net loss of days off it pays 150%; junior man pays 175%. Critical and JM both have a min day of 4 so critical pays min of 6 and JM pays min of 7.

That's my simple understanding... may not be contractually perfect but my brain doesn't compute the complexities very well.

Best of luck with your decision and future.

I drive to TYS from Nashville and it works out nicely. Its a 2.5hr drive, but you never have to stress about getting on a commute flight. Even on reserve, it hasnt been that bad. Even tonight, im sitting in a payed for (be it reimbursed) hotel room in Knoxville. I like the airport, I like the area and the crews. My only complaint about TYS is that its fairly senior. But thats because once people get here, they stick around.

I was looking at Envoy and the word on the street is their upgrade times are now up to 6 years. I don't want to be in DFW or ORD commuting and worrying about crash pads waiting 6-7 years just to upgrade. I much rather be in Middle Tennessee. I know the area very very well. 2.5 isn't that bad. Hopefully I can get TYS. But what will be better is if PSA had a Nashville base. That would be awesome.

Envoy's upgrade time just dropped from 8 years to 6 years and is continuing in that direction. Whatever wholly owned you pick, look at what upgrade and flowthrough will be for you hired today. Not someone hired 2 years, 6 years, or 10 years ago.
PSA is saying its 8 years to flow for a new hire and Envoy is saying 5.5 years. PDT says 4 years but they get that number by first doubling their pilot group, which then doubles their flow. We all know that's not going to happen in this hiring atmosphere. Envoy and PSA give more accurate and realistic projections based off of current number of employees.
You have the right idea about looking at quality of life. Just give a thought about the differences in flow also.

Envoys flow is not 5.5 years. It is much longer than that. Their flow has fallen apart recently. The rate is much too high in comparison to their ability to hire.

Choose an airline based on what is important for you. If base is important, along with a good quality of life, then choose based on that.

Just be sure to make an educated decision based on real information, not just what the recruiters tell you.
