Quote: I know...I was lucky enough to get DTW on the last vacancy and will only have commuted to NYC for 3 months, but I don't want to be on reserve there forever either. How big can NYC get? Has anybody heard any rumors about where these supposed 20 new 200's are going next year?
Spaced throughout the system. Much like -900's. All 4 bases, maybe 3 by the time they arrive (read: NYC co-domicile IF full efb's are deployed in conjunction, that's a predicated piece). Flying will continue to "flow" through each base, focus cities, and mx bases. Just regrowing the population. Talks of another base, but there have been many talks before, so let's stick to facts.

The push has been to grow nyc -200, now it's to stabilize as the numbers match for upgrades and new hires in the secondary market. Bid where you want to be, keep the bid card in that mantra and you will end up in your #1 choice in due time. It should be a movement process where you can see peers moving at the same rate, but on their own prerogative. Some will chase base seniority as commuters without difference, others will chase upgrade, some live in base (or have a very easy commute) and will allow progress to only enhance QOL. Create a mantra and allow relative isl seniority to raise your QOL or pay, as you see fit.

I've seen a fair few guys I know on DTW2CA bid over to NYC with no backfill. Hopefully that comes next year.

Quote: If you size up "where do I want to be" in terms of regionals, you should have an end goal in sight. Currently, if it's Delta, you likely want Endeavor. If American, sort through the WO's for your QOL. United? Well, do some research... honestly, I really can't speak to UA. It seems that DL and AA are the ones really playing the regionals because they OWN some. You want UPS or FDX, it now becomes a true reckoning of both your body clock and the credentials they are looking for (PIC, glass, intl, and any FAA certs -mainly check airman, and volunteer work- that you can throw on top). You don't know where you are until you decide where you want to be.

Personally, I had a 3-5 year plan when joining a regional. It was all figured out and lined up. The world "happened", life has "happened" and I'll be at DL in the spring. Was that my plan a decade ago? Nope. Problem? You could say I told God my plan and he laughed, you could say it was the way the world works, you can call it luck of the draw. In the end, I applied to DL in 2008 and interviewed in 2015. Was it by my "street credentials", no, it was the SSP that got me the interview and CJO. 10 years ago movement was quick, shortly thereafter it wasn't; with a recession and age 65.

For someone now joining the ranks you are looking at retirements for movement regardless of the economy. To that end you still must figure out "where do I want to be in 5 years, 10 years, retirement". Your point of "here" is misincule, figure out where you want to be and how to get there. It comes down to more than pay, its QOL, and an end state. For each person, it will be different so get out your pro-con list and do some easy math. This test will require your fingers for scoring. If you want to be at a major, DL is a good one to be at, but you still need to figure out if it's for you. If it is, Endeavor creates a path that no other carrier does. If it makes you feel better, the path is created by cost savings to DL.

Think it through.
Well said.

No one is saying there are only unqualified pilots in a flow program. You need to get out of that mindset. You're programmed by some bias to assume that Delta thinks flow pilots are degenerates or something of the like.

Let's not go down a rabbit hole. In any program, flow, or interview process a few will get through that the majority view as unworthy. Keeps the 5% rule alive and it's a fact of any job in any sector. In the end, you can't personally control it and can only do the your own best.

Not directed to you, but it should just end now. Can't change what you can't control.

I've been saying that to several people here. But it's been twisted into a quasi-conspiracy theory.

There is any learning tool to master PBS?

No, that's not what I'm thinking at all.

I'm done for the night. SA fail.

Check the hotlines and email the appropriate group. Those in the group are a mix of line pilots, instructors, and full-time PBS folks who will answer your questions and concerns. Each person in th group understands coding down to the 1's and 0's.

Quote: I personally have never heard anyone close to the hiring process call a flow a "detriment" to our culture. I think, pure and simple, that Delta feels they can still control the process as hey have done for decades. I don't see this as a reflection on an overprotective measure for our culture. It will change naturally over the next 6 years with our coming retirements anyway. That's a force they can't control.

Okay, humor me this; what are they trying to control exactly? And why do the higher ups keep saying "there will never be a flow to Delta". E.B. Said this very recently himself. So when I here "control the hiring process", I hear sort out the best canadates. I understand it's their choice, but I just want to understand how American is doing it while protecting their culture? Statistically I think the amount slipping through the cracks would be about the same.
