Yeah, and we used to fly unlimited anywhere in the world FREE with write your own passes, We also had $25 one way service charge passes on just about anyone else, PLUS we got 12 buddy passes free of charge....Times have sure changed.

$200 just to participate, insane first class charges, imputed income, flights fuller than ever...It's a joke

UA enrollment fee is waived if you are based at a United domicile ie ORD, DEN

LAX-ORD-LAX = $400 "value", add that to your taxable income column and pay income tax on it, 10% bracket? That trip will cost you $40. 15%? $60, FO with children? If you pay no income tax, pay nothing!
Sort of...the "value" is 10% of the 400, so $40, then they tax $40 based on your tax bracket

Lets say you earned $2,000 for the paycheck, your secret girlfirend i.e. *enrolled friend* flew to Omaha for a overnight rendezvous with you a few weeks back - Yonited calculates a fare value lets say $200 - which the IRS says Hey! That's a taxable benefit! - So that "value" is represented as "imputed income" on your paycheck - NOW your paycheck says you earned $2,200 and your taxed on that $2,200 according to your with holdings, exemptions, etc....get it
Got it, thanks. So, to keep her off the radar, buy her a ticket…cash. Just kidding, dedicated husband & father here.

You're welcome to try to get a refund through the SKYW Travel Center, but odds are sadly not in your favor. Mother U is a money-grubbing, soul sucking black hole of a company, which year after year tries harder and harder to get more from us in exchange for less and less... I live in a UAL domicile and I still almost never non-rev on them, largely because even on our own metal you are relegated to the jumpseat when there are 5 dinosaurs with vacation passes listed ahead of you. Delta is a far superior experience (no extra charge for business/first, no extra charge for beer in premium class cabins just because you're a non-rev!), and Southwest and Frontier treat us better than United gate agents do.

BTW, U2 fan? LOVE your screenname.

Within just the last year United has messed up and canceled my benefits twice stranding my family members. They did it to my parenrs when they were on vacation forcing them to rent a car and drive to ATL to use Delta. Just today they dropped my enrolled friend off of my benefits while we both happen to be on vacation together and now we're scrambling to figure out how to get her home. This is getting ridiculous and I can't believe how bad my timing has been both times it's happened.

Delta is far superior. I just wish I didn't live in a United hub.
