Word from an instructor is hiring going to 32 a month and upgrades going to 16. Will believe it once it's on the next system bid but this seems to contrast the "hiring slowdown" talked about a few pages ago.
We are hiring more line check airmen but that's because we have more captains (more line checks) and we plan on increasing OE to 30-35 hours instead of the minimum of 25 hours.
Unless we bought more FTDs we don't have the capacity to increase training. Yes, we are getting more check airmen but there are only 3 FTDs (maybe 4). There have been talks about getting more but that's our hang up. Remember no training at night, so in reality we can use a device 16 hours a day if it's used to capacity. Not complaining at all but it restricts how much we can push through.

I would expect any recommendations for increased OE time come from our instructors who are very good at what they do. We must be seeing a few more guys needing some extra time out here on OE.

Spirit is a safe airline because of the pilots. Pay issues aside, you guys are the gatekeepers and there's a lot of pressure on you to turn out good, safe line pilots or reject the ones who don't meet the standards.
The public, FAA, and media are not going to be as forgiving on Spirit as they are for DAL, LUV, AA, etc. if there is a mishap.
If you guys say everybody needs more hours of OE, or people from non-turbojet backgrounds need more OE, whatever it takes...I support that. Please, just help to make sure everybody stays safe around here.
Keep up the good work. My experiences with the training dept. at Spirit have all been excellent. You guys really know your stuff.

Guys, don't sell yourselves short. Upgrade should be paid at the award date. That applies pressure to get you into training as soon as possible. I was held for three months, flying my nice FO line at Captain rates. You guys want more sims? Paying a lot of FOs as Captains because of training backlogs is a great incentive. And hell, even if the new sims never come, you still win.

So we are already to the point where we are hiring people that need 35 hours to finish IOE? If so that's frightening.
