I flew the 330/350 concurrently before joining UAL, even on the same day (common type rating). It's not too big of a deal.

Where will Boeing get these planes? They have current orders to fill at other airlines and the FAA has told Boeing that they can't expand production until they prove that they have a solid quality control program (considering how far they have fallen, this could take significant time). Airbus is also sold out on 321 neo's for years. Considering that we ordered around 275 Max 10's that are supposed to have already been showing up with a very aggressive delivery schedule, I seriously doubt that we see any significant near term improvement. United Next is just going to have to be slow rolled.

2 types will be gone and you will add 330 neos and 350 s basically another 2...
besides... you don't want all your eggs in one basket ..what happens if the 787 gets grounded
its Boeing after all

also 330-900 available now
you can turn all 767-3 on domestic runs
Doesn't matter if 330s are available now. It's 2 years minimum to ramp up a new type.

It sounds like they are buying back orders from JB and Spirit for 321 NEOs.

Remember that the initial cadre for the 350 went through training and were staying qualified by going to MIA sim every 90 days and the sim was almost ready to move from Canada .
the program for the 350 was signed off by the feds . Little refreshing those papers and bingo .

besides

add on since you already have the 319/20/21 and etops approved for the 321, it will be less than a year to get an approved training and operations program by the FAA

don't be pessimistic

I get that, but considering how many max 10's UA ordered and how much United Next depends on those aircraft, JB and Spirit orders are just a drop in the bucket. Every bit helps, but United Next is going to be hard to pull off until Boeing gets it's act together and either certifies the Max10, or increases production of the Max9.

they had over 150 aircraft to be delivered before 2026 and delayed by 3-4 years by both
check wiz air as well that is owned by indigo a US corp which owes frontier as well
they are in trouble too with 1/3 of their current fleet parked due to engine problems. They too delaying deliveries and their priority is to get 53 planes fly again

150 frames could be diverted to United

When the max 10 was sold to us we bought spots on the assembly line. Those spots don’t disappear they will just go to another customer or ,which is my guess, is UAL will sub the -10 spot for a -9 or -8. The bulk of the order can still be taken just not as max 10 but instead a smaller model which I’m sure when UAL signed the contract came with a penalty for Boeing. In other words we will get them for less which will make sense to replace some of the 320,319, 737-700 and 737-800, and 737-900 early.

I've always liked Boeing - even own Boeing stock - but the management has just gone to cr@p in recent years. And the MAX in particular has been a PR disaster. Already some travel apps have filters that are letting the white-knuckle flying crowd avoid buying tickets on the MAX. While Boeing may have finally worked all the bugs out, and I hope they have, they are about one more incident away from the sort of public reaction that doomed the Electra as an airliner even though once Lockheed straightened out the pylon harmonics problem the airframe did yeoman work for the Navy and cargo carriers. Once public perception sufficiently sours on an airframe it creates its own economic headwinds. For right now, slight advantage Airbus. One more MAX screwup, that advantage may both widen and lengthen.
