Looks like it copied the same link twice and didn't include the one I cited.. whoops. Here are two articles to "inform" you. It's crazy to me how so many are this disconnected from what's going on.

You make it sound like they can't find a coupla Trillon $$ of assets. Like maybe they were pilfered or never procurred but paid for. Or possibly, someone took an F-35 on a date to show off and forgot to bring it back.

The audit has only been around for 6 years. It sounds more like the "data" is not exactly the way the 1600 auditors want it, and/or there are issues in pigeonholing the data. To me, there is a big differnce between "bookeeping errors" and theft/misappropriation.

"During a Pentagon press briefing on Tuesday, DoD Comptroller Michael McCord said one of the challenges for military records keeping is in assigning values to the equipment the military has in its vast stores. He also said another problem arises with how the military is supposed to evaluate weapons and equipment it has paid for but that could take years for civilian manufacturers to deliver."

If any of the 27 audits that comprise the overall audit lack sufficient data the overall audit fails. "The remaining 16 component audits were listed with “disclaimers of opinion,” meaning the auditors were unable to find complete enough financial records to provide an audit opinion. The disclaimers of opinion accounted for 47 percent of the DoD’s total assets and at least 71 percent of the DoD’s total budgetary resources.

I think this article paints a more accurate picture.

yeah, but that doesn’t create nearly the outage “missing half of 3.8 trillion” would. Damn pesky facts. Always getting in a way. Ugh

Wonder if the delays in aircraft delivery have softened Kirby's stance on used aircraft? He said he didn't like the idea last year, but wonder if the extra work is suddenly worth it. Lynx air just stopped operating and they have 9 737-Max8s and 15-20 more on order. Wonder if you could get all their planes and their orders to help fill in the slow down.

I know they are looking at filling in gaps with newly returned 320/1 slots from other airlines, but wondering if you could also get some pretty new used aircraft as well (737s or A320/1s). If we want to keep the United Next plan that Kirby loves so much it seems we are going to have to accept some things we didn't like a year or two ago. The good news is if you can make that work, we could keep growing while others would be even less capable of doing so.

Exclamation Stuck rudder at EWR?

Another day, and another MAX issue surfaces in the wild.

tl;dr: 06FEB2024: on landing rollout at EWR, the crew reported that the rudder pedals were "stuck" in their neutral position and used nosewheel steering to maintain runway centerline.
09FEB2024: UA orders a test flight on the aircraft and is able to duplicate the malfunction.
28FEB2024: Collins Aerospace examined the rollout guidance servo and found that after being "cold soaked" for 1 hour, "the servo's output crank arm was significantly beyond the specified design limits" ... which "would prevent the rudder pedals from moving as observed during [the incident]."

And just about an hour ago a United MAX 8 had a runway excursion in IAH. Tried to turn off at the end of 27 and ended up in the grass. 🤔🤔

anyone know the purpose of the servo that is disabled but mechanically connected? The report implies the SVO-730 asssits in maintaining runway centerline during rollout, but an option not active (but installed) per UAL requirement.

Eitherway it's a bad deal to have a part that freezes and locks rudder inputs by the pilots. Hopefully a one of bad component and not more in the fleet.

The report said it had to do with CAT IIIB vs CAT IIIA.
