As an uninvolved bystandard, I still suggest they dust off the 757 drawings, update it, and call it the 797.

I think the tooling is long gone and probably everyone that ever worked on one. It's been over 20 years since they ceased production.

Theyd screw that one up too unless Boeing focus’s on engineering again and not the stock price which will absolutely never happen.

That is why I said pull out the drawings. The industry made the tools, fixtures, and jigs. Back then, no one had ever worked on them.

Design drawings gets you half there.

If it is painful enough, you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Their CEO said they’re 10+ years away from being able to start on a clean sheet design, so the safe bet is they’re actually closer to 20 years to the design and 30 from the first flight.

What he actually said (in 2022) was that they’re planning to “introduce a new airplane sometime in the middle of next decade.” Given how many issues they’ve had recently, your timeline is probably at least as likely as that… but that’s what they’re claiming for now, at least.

I was about to say the same thing. Pilotless airplanes? How about getting planes certified and have engines that work. Let’s start there before we consider taking pilots out of the flight deck
