Just put Leap on NEOs. Problem solved.

The 330 NEO is also a direct competitor to the 787, albeit not as good and that airplane is actually doing really well for us when BA actually delivers them.
Neo 330 isnt close to a direct competitor to the 787. Ancient airframe and technology with new motors comapres to a modern state of the art plane ?? Seriously??

We aren't doing any widebody order with airbus. Do you have any clue how much it costs to take on a new fleet??

I do.

and why would Airbus bend over backwards and “buy back” some 321 delivery slots if it isn’t for something bigger? They don’t need to sell more 321 to UAL. They are doing just fine without our business.

so what would be in it for Airbus if not placing WB with UAL?

I mean, we've entered the realm of lots of different possible costs from lots of different risks. It will definitely cost to spool up training and maintenance. It definitely costs when an entire fleet gets parked. We'll know how much confidence UAL still has in BA soon and which risk they'll take but the MAX-10 just got pushed at least a year so there's a cost.

Hey Boeing, have you ever heard of automatic ice detectors? Those would solve the problem stat. Oh also EICAS...

Do you have any idea how much it’s going to cost for Kirby to miss his growth targets for several years due to delivery delays?

hell this 20 day MAX9 grounding cost United 150-200 million dollars……it’s cheaper than that to stand up a new fleet I promise you.

So United is never going to buy another new type of airplane again?

The Max-10 is a huge part of United Next. If that piece isn't in place, the plan won't work. Kirby wants United Next to be his legacy, and if requires a new type to be added to the fleet, he'll do it.

How will weakness in ULCC market impact their order book? Are their non-US market sales enough to make stealing Boeing's biggest customer irrelevant to them? Haven't done the research, just asking.

There was an Airbus sales rep at the August Flight Standards meeting. He did an entire presentation on the A-350. Kirby said that we are a couple years away from having to decide on a 777 replacement. Airbus is pushing us to take the A-350s now. So Airbus would do anything they could to get us to take delivery of A-350s now, even if it means paying airlines for orders of A-321s so that they could deliver them to us instead.

There is value in a new fleet type, it limits how many planes are grounded for manufacturer or FAA groundings. The 321 groundings at Spirit are likely to force them into BK in the next year.

Airbus has a backlog of 5+ years for their 320 family. Even if Spirit went belly up they would auction off those delivery slots to the highest bidder. Airbus has very little motivation to cut UAL a deal for 321 unless there is a WB order attached to it
