It used to be better. Sorry if my language has confused the topic.
Well, under this generally given use, the commuter would shirk an assignment with a report in the first 2 hours, potentially to a local who didn't use this PWA NC tool who could have also avoided the assignment had he utilized the NC option. Can't blame the local for utilizing this provision as well.

Maybe they already got G#1 and are still below the trigger.

I drop half my line (or more) and pick up what I like regardless if it's less than 18 hours. The hive is free to do as they wish.

100%. If we as a pilot group want to make the WS pickup limit lower and the company goes along with it, then, it'll be lower. Until then, you have a right to pickup whatever to that limit.

Personally, I only WS to get above the GS trigger and I'm only willing to work for double pay. These days, I don't know who is so hard up for GSs.

The dude to which i am currently referring is 50% company wide. So that isn't an excuse.

A GS doesn’t always pay more than a WS, for every pilot in every situation. If you’re well below the GS trigger and see a desirable rotation, then there’s almost no upside to waiting for it to possibly go out as a GS.

Negotiating a lower GS trigger would reduce some of this.

I'm senior to that and ultra senior in my seat. Our bid packet trips suck, so I drop everything and WS better/more efficient broken up trips. If nothing is going on I'll WS down to immediate reports. Reserve staffing doesn't even enter my crosscheck as im working my way back to the trigger. It's just another strategy. Why fly a 6 leg, 2 day when I could fly a 2 leg, 2 day with 17 hours TAFB?

Say it louder for the folks in the back.

I drop most of my schedule bc I can make a better schedule with broken trips, and that enhances my quality of life. Never once have I looked (or cared) at what reserve coverage/SC availability was.

I'm thinking they can becuase the PWA allows it, so don't worry about it.

Maybe they dropped some other rotations on their scheudle and now need to pick up some WS to get back to GS trigger. Maybe this notional WS is a broken up trip that starts and/or ends allowing a commuter to drive to the DH airport and fly the trip.

Maybe there is a boat-load of credit built into this notional WS.

And as Fangs said, my WS pays me more than your GS pays me.
