Reserve for Dummies

Are you guys getting rerouted so much that it's bringing in truly meaningful additional income? (Truly meaningful I guess means different things to different people) I feel like I get RR'ed once or twice every month and a half on average. So an extra 3-6 hours comes in every once and a while. Which is great, im glad we have it. Maybe I should try harder on getting RR'ed more often. I also bid reserve all year and try to work as little as possible so I suppose i'm just not exposed to the system like others are.

As was posted below reroutes tend to happen when something is going sideways like our big snow event. I was consecutively rerouted and due to just nightmares in the operation they were down to min rest. My fix for that is calling tracking and having them start my rest when I get into my room. That usually results in ten and change to 11 hour layover but it’s still short. This time I wasn’t able to get ahold of anyone since so many folks were calling in. My point of having an app based software is this could allow a lot of would be calls to be cleaned up and create some efficiencies. Downline it would probably be a huge benefit to other crews too, lotta ways to work around this. As for reroutes I’ve had 3 post new contract but I do my best to stay from work as much as possible. I’d imagine most folks aren’t getting rerouted enough to make a meaningful amount of money but that’s a number that everyone sees differently. Forums are where the vocal minority hang out so your results may vary.

As to comms, I agree that we need a more robust system in order for us to reach scheduling. Other than the fact that there aren’t enough of them, it’s really not hard for them to reach us if they need to. But not being able to reach anyone when we’re out on the line is an embarrassment for a company of this size and with this much profit. Even just being able to text scheduling telling them when we will be reporting at the airport after a layover would be very helpful. But even the most robust system in the world won’t help when there aren’t enough people on the other end to respond.

Just went and looked, I got about 60 hours of reroute pay last year. Given that a lot of my flying is almost impossible to reroute, I'm guessing many are doing much better than I did. That's an extra $25k in income for the year, when you factor in PS and 401k. I don't really go looking for reroutes, but I certainly don't get as upset as I used to, when I hear the printer fire up.
