Random. Lets say a guy has an 11 day stretch of reserve coming up. At some point before that stretch starts, I see rest assigned about mid way through that stretch. Cool. Now lets say I break up the rest of that reserve stretch using IVD's/PD's/etc etc. Now it's all hacked up, trying to be useless. Can I expect that previously assigned rest period to stay? (Even though I wouldn't need it at this point because the stretch is all broken up). Or can I expect a scheduler to see it's not needed and remove it?

It depends.

Why are you asking about reserve rules on a Reserve Thread? //s//

Also I think I remember reading this in when they announced placing rest far out in advance on your schedule, but just to confirm, can they move that rest period to award a YS that would conflict with it as long as they can come up with a legal solution per 117 or are you stuck with it?

Thanks for clearing things up! I figured someone had been in that scenario and seen the newly not-needed assigned rest stay on without being caught.

Yes, it sure is. I'm not going to do it, though. If it's important to you, go right ahead. I'm packing my bags and heading to the curb.
The only CAs that tell me that are the old guard.

When I land I get up as soon as I can because the 73N seat suuuuuuuuucks and I want out post haste.

If the CA lands I give him/her a 10 count after I say "checklist complete" and then I bounce, because the 73N seat suuuuuuuuuucks.

If I say goodbye and a bunch of people say thanks I consider that a happy accident.

Does of you who bid reserve willingly (thank you for your service, by the way):

That 30 minutes pre release schedule check. Do you guys actually log into iCrew or call CS to check? I'm trying to brush up on my RES knowledge and I don't think I've ever actually bothered doing this. I just check Micrew and drive on.

Micrew is never official for anything. On the post-release required schedule check you must either view your schedule in icrew, and thus see any popup notifications, or call the VRU, which will tell you if you have any changes to your schedule.

iCrew. And that check is only applicable for future assignments, it doesn’t count towards them trying to tack on extra flying assuming they didn’t properly notify you prior to top of descent.
