Lots of reasons. Want to fill up. Want to block terrible trips on the first day of the bid periods. Want to guarantee commutes. Want to strand a LC day at the end of the stretch.
Want to get into RAW group 2 first

People need to remember that if you are LC the first day of the bid period and REG the day before (even if you don’t fly) you are protected from any report before 1800 that first day.

That doesn't mean there aren't terrible trips that don't start after 1800 or the 1800-2300 SC start times. In fact, there are lots of trips that report at 10p and block out at midnight. Or are just terrible trips anyways. I would take an easy 4 or 5 day starting in the last day of the reg month any day

I’m not saying there’s never a reason to do it, but more often then not people on FB seem to be surprised when they do something like that and don’t see any extra pay in the LC month. You just need to know what you’re doing and what the downsides are. Like I said, if you’re able, a higher-paying strategy would be to pick up a trip that ends on the last day of the REG month that then makes you illegal for those crappy RES trips based on 30/168. You earn the extra trip pay in its entirety and you earn an extra day+ off on LC when scheduling is forced to give you a 30 hour rest.

I agree that people can use this strategy to fill up, but that is almost (not entirely) a Nov-Dec strategy to get the holidays off. Someone might have a good reason to try to fill up early in Sept but that’s a very rare instance.

Biggest downside I see is ruining a holiday weekend by going to work.

Had scheduled rest put on 17 September to only have it removed this morning. 🤷‍♂️

Default Reserve Timecard Hours

Been using JFB’s reserve pay sheet to see what my hours will be for September but it doesn’t match my timecard. I know, I can’t believe the TC isn’t super transparent. 😏 Anyhow, I have 74:03 ALV, 13 hours carry-in credit (not a factor), 10 days of vacation, 3 days of CQ and I used 3 IVDs. Depending on where I put the 3 IVDs in the JFB formula (“vacation days” or “replacement days”), I get two different answers and neither match the timecard in icrew. Any thoughts? How are IVDs handled in JFB (should be replacement days I think)? Gracias.
