Any "Latest & Greatest about Delta?" Part 2
#7891
While I agree with you that actively tanking is objectively wrong, I think the key word there was borderline. Good leadership, good work environments that support and don’t gas light move the needle towards helping out.
I liked the way someone put it that play stupid games win long term stupid prizes. Delta is building a culture among the group hired since 2015 and definitely since 2022. The constant pettiness and word salad excuses are going to have long term consequences. Heard a rumor that there has been a noticeable drop in working extra particularly among pilots hired since the pandemic.
I’ve watched the attitude change towards the CPO since I’ve been here. It’ll be interesting to watch.

I'm promptly available to the closest airport (ny based) when on Short Call but I'm not airport standby. They want VAS, they can pay for it.
I am always less than 2 ish hours in normal traffic to EWR. If they call during rush hour to JFK, I will finish my meal, hop in the shower, adjust my standard load out based on length and destination, then get in my truck and drive the speed limit to JFK or LGA if they don't send me to EWR. I'm not gonna start a new set in the gym, but I'm not going to pack so fast I'm in Calgary with no pants and no coat.
I rarely extend. FDP limits are there for a reason. And I know if I clip wings taxing in after a 16 hour day there will be no slack given by company. "He said he was ok" and let the FAA rake me over the coals.
I don't Leeeeroy Jeeeeenkiiins my wat through a nasty front to save them $500 in gas. Nor do I rush to protect the all holy D-0 metric.
I do make the walk.

The unfortunate thing is, we all have to suffer those long term consequences while upper management will be long gone and onto their next company by then.

I do not advocate going beyond the contract. Ever.
my response was to the gentleman that quoted the pay theft issue and then insinuated that they would call in fatigued at an outstation as retribution. At no point should management’s handling of our finances impact that decision. I think we can all agree that screwing passengers who have nothing to do with it, is a crappy thing to do. Much less having a soft line on fatigue.
contract 100% no more/no less

So, I guess no one seems to care about the massive flight ops re-org just announced yesterday??? You should probably pay attention to the shuffling and re-org here, we've got some not so pilot friendly people back in the chairs again. I was sad to see BS move over to CSSC. I'm hoping they are broadening him to eventually take over from JL.

The group hired since 2014 currently do not have to worry about lost retirement, pensions, etc.
The 2014-2022 group largely cut their teeth in the trenches of the regionals in the "lost years." The mindset there wasn't one of always going above and beyond due to bad treatment by their managements.
Then there are the generational issues. The younger generations don't believe work is everything. It's not a personally defining attribute. So, they tend to work their schedule and worry less about working on off days. Money doesn't always drive them.
*This isn't an all encompassing list nor is it intended to poke fun of any stereotypes or particular generations*

There’s no going back to that here. Their recent disregard for the contract has only sent them further past the point of no return.

I haven't seen a truly pilot-friendly group of FLOPS management since I was hired. Yes there have been good individuals in certain positions over time, but the overwhelming corporate mentality towards pilots is one of disdain and antagonism. Who holds what spot and reports to what person is irrelevant. If more bad people are in then that just reinforces the negative trendline as we head towards section 6. The more they keep P'ing off the pilots then fewer and fewer will be willing to go above and beyond the PWA to support the operation, and the more resolve we'll have overall as a group to stand strong.
You can have all the resolve you want. However, they control your day to day life when on the job and they can make your life pretty miserable along the way. Sure, we can grieve it. But where has that gotten us? Recall the infamous "it's not a grievance until the arbitrator says so". So unless, until, that process runs out, our lives while on the job (and to some extent off time) become pretty unsavory. Going back to your tenure here, perhaps you don't recognize the names that were moved in to key positions or their history. Nothing about these moves is a good thing for this pilot group.
