I've had multiple GenZ FOs just not have cash. But have grabbed me a coffee for paying. (I usually give the driver a $5 for us)
It's usually more of a "eff I don't have cash" and its tve only thing they use cash for. It's just not something they're used to carrying. Like subway and turnpike tokens.

I'm talking about flat out, grabbing bags and leaving. Not saying "I don't have the cash" as you described above. that scenario, totally cool and acceptable in my book.

I've also never seen someone NOT tip the van driver here at Delta (aside from FAs).

Why do you millennial and Gen Z FO's not tip van drivers? Is it some kind of flex for you all???
Generally curious. When I was a lowly panel guy sitting sideways making squat as a new hire here, I tipped. Because that was prudent and expected of us as professionals. Now?
I don't get it. Someone explain this to me.

My best explanation is that "they" don't care.
But you do care.
It's not about them.
Signed: Gen X'er that gets crisp $2 bills from the bank to tip van drivers and doesn't pay any attention to or care for what others tip.
Unless I ran low on my small bills and need change.

Maybe the guy HK saw is an outlier?

With electronic payment everyone has their hand out like a street dweller."I need a signature on the tablet you just have to answer the question first." It's gotten out of hand. I think minimum wage should apply to everyone and the people who actually serve you like a waiter should be tipped as YOU see fit. Van drivers aren't making a reduced wage and dependant on gratuity. I rode with one guy that had his own QR code so if you didn't have cash he would get his 2 bucks. Just pay people a living wage so they don't have to guilt people into giving you money. Tipping for service is so 1980s. If there is genuine appreciation then give something but the expectation is not the reason.

I rarely carry cash, only for work tips. Apple pay for 99% of my transactions. Call it mental gymnastics if you like but it's out dated. I don't mind them earning more just put it in the price of the service. I still do it because it's the norm, I just think it shouldn't be. Nobody deserves $2.45 for an hourly wage. Van drivers don't even help with bags anymore and make an hourly wage way above the real servers. The employer needs to make up the difference and charge appropriately for the service. Call me cheap, it make no difference. I never claimed to make bank unless talking in general about the profession. (we all do very well) I claim to be efficient, minimal work for maximum pay, there's a huuuge difference.

I'm on my 4th trip with a millenial FO. I had one recently that was a Gen Z. None of them tipped. Not a single one. Granted we don't have many Gen Z on the WB fleet I'm on, but we had a few squeak into the category back in the salad days post cOvId.
Anyway, at least you are seeing it, that makes me feel a bit better.
