I flew the 737-900 at CAL. I'll take my old Douglas DC-9-88 with an APU and the left pack on the hook over that jet. Yuck!
I've never heard anyone happy with that jet. Unless they order a 2L door and make it 2x3 seating. So really its a MD88 replacement. Then maybe... but they won't. |
I find it hard to believe we'd order 100 737-900s right now.
Its not a good long-term plan, and that's a lot of money tied up in replacing an existing capability. Even worse would be a committal to buy the 737-9 with the LEAP-X engines. It's possible DAL is using the 787 penalty to get these jets for a song, right at a time when Boeing need orders for its cash cow that's about to run dry... Airbus vs Boeing is as childish as Ford vs Chevy does it really make a difference? Now if we're talking MB vs BMW, now you're talking :D Cheers George |

I guess I am a little pessimistic also, given DALPA's track record. All the company has to do is ask. I'm sure you don't understand the majority of our Pilot's pessimism based on your continued drum beating for Dalpa.
Why hasn't the company asked already if it's that easy? It would be so easy to pay DAL pilots less than any other legacy or LCC if that was the case! You mean the company that asked DALPA to staff jets with 2CA's and 2 FO's on 12+ hr flights instead of the 1CA and 3FO's like NW had? There's plenty more but I'll just pretend like you were kidding. |

It could be a planned leak to "urge" the Airbus folks to get a better offer. None of the Bloomberg article is fact, it is just speculation......

My question is, did ACL get scooped on airplane order news? Raise your hand if you thought this was going to be an A321 order. I did not expect a 73-9 order at all. |

True that we spend most of the time on AP. That is not the time that matters though. During critical phases of flight, I prefer secondary inputs. I'm old and shiny new things don't always impress me.... I also think the cockpit display in the 767 is just fine. Amazingly I haven't been lost one single time going across the Atlantic/Pacific/ to South America, and even to Africa, so having 4 CRTs instead of the 2 I have just doesn't give me goosebumps, and it certainly doesn't make my job any easier or safer.
I will assume that your insistence on the tray table is TIC, but if not, I will tell you that I couldn't care less that the 767 doesn't have one. Two things that make your job safer and easier: electronic checklists CPDLC/ADS signed; boeing systems operator. now, if we ever got 120 lb F/A's again... just sayin' |
Agreed... The 900 is a pig. Will avoid it like the plague, and so will our pax. It will probably not even be able to operate out of LGA or DCA with any sort of load. And 3 lavs for how many pax? I can't imagine the barf bag count on a summer transcon flight through the weather. This is an airplane that the bean counters will love, but the crews and pax will absolutely loathe. In many ways, this represents a huge step backwards for air transportation. Bring back the Convair 990!!!
