From a cursory check (there could be someone more junior somewhere), junior captain is is around 8150. Assuming 11000 pilots and no growth or shrinkage, that's about 2850 from the bottom. Thru Dec. 2020 we have 2327 age 65 retirements.
As an early 2014 hire and bidding captain at the first possible time in any base, you are probably looking at 2021-2023. So, at most around 9 possibly 10 years (if you assume 11500 pilots currently which is probably closer than 11000). As others said, probably NYC M88 or DTW 717 will be junior categories.

Probably very few widebody FO's, 50% or better in category, will bid narrowbody reserve Capt. That might help the race to the left seat if that is the ultimate goal.
5-6 legs a day for narrowbody CA flying into the hubs...or 1 leg to (fill in blank) difference in pay is probably less than $1K a month

15+ including 5 or so on furlough and 10 more of zero retirement stagnation. I think we will definately see 6 year upgrades, maybe a little less than that even. If 9-11 and age 65 didn't happen, we'd be seeing it years ago.

Not to mention that when there's hiring/advancement going on, guys bypass far more than when things are stagnant. When there's no movement we tend to grab whatever chairs we can. Hiring, significant retirements and even a little bit of growth will make magic happen. We may even see some pilots getting Captain seats "out of seniority"

Many of those that will (and have been) jumped have no desire to fly domestic or have already flown NB Captain and are back on a WB right seat by choice for QOL. Good for them and those who want the first left seat they can get. Thankfully it's a big enough operation to accommodate almost everyone's personal situation and desires.
