Yes, nice schedules with weekends off and now a base that I can drive to if needed.

20 E-175's only generates 100 F/O positions. If only new-hires get them like the present scheme, that doesn't do much for more senior locals, let alone those who aren't local and would like to bid it. If Envoy will allow present non E-175 pilots to bid them, then it doesn't do any good for new-hires. If some present new-hire DFW E-175 pilots can transition then more spots open up in DFW, but all in all once 100 slots are filled, the same old staffing attraction problem returns. At any rate, it won't solve attrition as I don't see anyone turning down a legacy or LCC just because they got the E-175.

If true, it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Debbie downer. If we do indeed open a MIA base again one thing is for sure, it will not scare off new hires.

Who said anything about scaring off new-hires ? First of all, this is presently unsubstantiated rumor and if the next 20 E-175's go to ORD, once again a cry to the heavens will occur due to premature and irrational exuberance. If it does occur, my points are valid depending on just who Envoy management targets for the right seat. 100 new captains slots would ordinarily mean movement, but unless this kick starts 35-40 new-hires/month in perpetuity, Envoy continues to melt and the captains seats are filled mostly through displacements out of smaller CRJ's and 140/145's, the latter of which will have some being parked.

Of course, the other option is to ignore examining the hard realities and simply close your eyes, click your heals three times together and repeat, "there's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's.........". It seems that utopian mirage has always provided a warm and fuzzy there to many as long as one never opens their eyes.

Is this aimed at the pilots or management? Because this is not the pilots problem to fix. Opening a MIA 175 base will likely not solve any of the staffing issues we have. And when it doesn't let's see what else management comes up with.

It's not "aimed" at anyone.

I'm simply stating my opinions regarding some at Envoy who think any announcement of a MIA E-175 base will automatically provide substantial benefit to either the present pilots or to altering Envoy's present path. Again, IF it does happen (and that's a big if), it depends on who Envoy management targets for the benefit. Either new-hires or present pilots, either currently qualified or maybe not, but not likely both. If a new domicile is opened in MIA, it's likely Envoy management wants it for their interests, whereas AAG might find it to the overall advantage of the operation to place those A/C at ORD.

It would be more expensive to put them at MIA as the domicile start-up costs have to be included with local management staffing, adequate facilities and of course potential training costs to allow present pilots to bid a "new status". It might be better to place them at ORD, which would get another 100 new-hires and open a satellite domicile in MIA with smaller E-145's to benefit a handful of present Envoy pilots which I hear ALPA has all but agreed to even though many pilots are against it.

Again, even with both, it's but a temporary hiccup distracting from the primary terminal illness and it isn't even a hiccup yet.
