How many hotel trash cans are filled with a few thousand approach charts today this morning?

The STAR is pretty clear. "Crew members are no longer required to carry paper aeronautical charts..."

Seems pretty clear cut. I would not call that bad wording.

The sentence preceding that says effective October 5.......and also why crews with a terminator tonight give the manuals over to ops. Don't throw away jeps until tonight.

Throws charts out. Gets FAA observation. Checks for charts. Fails. Resets it for another 6 months.

It doesn't actually work like that.

Pilot gets violated. Pilot fills out ASAP report. Pilot did it unintentionally. Pilot does not get violated.

Company not punished.

Is anyone else impressed at how well this iPad implementation has gone? There really haven't been any hiccups. It has worked fairly well.

I doubt that many of us thought that it would have gone this smoothly.

I think the threat of public shaming helped encourage people to do the right thing. The image of a mob with torches and pitch forks waiting for the person who caused the delay came to my head a lot.
