Then where's the survey?? Doesn't sound to me like they have any intention of asking. Besides, I don't think any significant number of pilots would complain about a mid-contract partial pay restoration, survey or not. Especially if it was substantial... something along the lines of bringing our pay in line with our soon to be biggest competitor in ATL, Southwest Airlines.

Just to add some background info. I recently had a very lengthy email exchange on this exact subject with one of these "new reps" you think so highly of. When it was all said and done, it came down to the same old mantra of "what are you willing to give up to get that?" Very frustrating... because I had held out some hope that things were changing with the exit of the Lee Moak regime. Apparently not.

And this new slate of reps still refuses to even ASK the company for a mid contract partial pay restoration. They take up the same, tired old mantra of "what are you willing to give up to get that?" Sounds to me like SSDD. Maybe the structure per se is okay. But the culture appears to be too ingrained to be able to penetrate. I see very little change from the same path Lee Moak put us on. And I think that spells disaster for any chance of real unity. You can't unite this pilot group around the idea that the rest of our careers are going to be mediocre and we should just accept that.

I've seen a ton of changes lately. Look at the changes in pay distribution, theater qualification, seats assigned for DH, scheduling optimization team, trip construction & variety, and various forms of communication such as Touch & Go's. Fact is DALPA is listening. The P2P program is being revived, & changes are being made. If we go after small things such as what I have listed above NOW, that is less to negotiate for in Sec 6. That means we can focus on pay, retirement, & scope.

But nothing about the really big, most important items. We still haven't set any kind of objective with regard to restoration of our profession and our careers. Resolutions to get mid-contract partial pay restoration are ignored (excuse me, "received"). And input to the same effect is responded to with, "what are you willing to give up to get that?" I'll give you that some things are changing for the positive. But I still think our expectations are being managed, our input on restoration ignored, and essentially the same old playbook is being run. Like I said before, at least on the big ticket items... SSDD. From what I'm seeing, I'm not optimistic. Wish I could be.

The definition says absolutely nothing about certificates.
Its anybody providing air transport by any means, directly or indirectly.
Republic Holdings is certainly that.

ALPA hashed and rehashed indeed.

Bottom line is they don't want to enforce that section of our contract.
Too disruptive for "constructive engagement" purposes and too divisive for their dream of bringing all mainline and RJ pilots under the ALPA dues collector machine.

The US government has extended the evacuation zone around the Japanese reactors to 50 miles. Not that all this talk of Section 1 and JVs isn't absolutely fascinating, but our futures may lie in the hands of an event completely out of our control.

Perhaps DALPA is waiting to see what UAL/CAL & AA get? Maybe waiting to see if UsAir's snap back clause goes in to effect? If those groups better our rates, we are in a better position to ask for restoration.

Sounds like a typical day in the airline biz.

Indeed-an interesting read is of the Chernobyl disaster. Many firefighters and engineers died of radiation poisoning within weeks after the explosion. The neighboring town was evacuated the next day April 2, 1986 and has been fenced off since. Pretty scary stuff.

This kind of thinking is a big part of what I think is wrong with DALPA. No successful company or organization achieves anything difficult and significant by sitting back and waiting to see what someone else does. That's ridiculous. We shouldn't be pinning our hopes to "pattern bargaining." We should be clearly defining our objective and going for it with everything we've got and with a sense of urgency. We have a lot of ground to make up. And we've been out of BK for almost half a decade! When do we start??

The big difference is that the russians didn't have the containment mechanisms in place like these reactors do.

As far as our futures being out of our hands in this career... let's see: oil fluctuations, global economic fluctuations, bird flu, pig flu, chipmunk flu, spotted squirrel pnuemonia, SARS, 9/11, and you name it, that's what we've signed up for in this industry.
