Thanks for the reply. I suppose the answer would be as always to get as much time as possible and keep the airlineapps profile updated regularly. SkyWest is the one regional I wouldn't mind being at for a long time during the wait but hopefully the predictions are correct about legacy hiring continuing to increase.

Yes. Keep the apps updated. Remember a recession is close and things will slow to a halt here soon. even UAL has already cut the new hire numbers for 2017 by over 400. Retirements won't make a difference. If you plan on 7 years at a regional, you won't be surprised.

Even if there is a market correction and the economy slows down, hiring will not come to a complete halt. With no added growth, the majors will each have to hire 400-500 a year just to account for retirements/medical outs. The majors are also scoped out on large RJs, so they risk a significant loss of market share if they were to downsize.
Additionally with all the bonuses and pay increases the regionals are introducing, there will come a point where it is no longer cost effective to continually outsource their flying since the days of extremely cheap RJ labor is quickly becoming a thing of the past.

Senseless thing to even say. "Remember a rescission is close"??
Um no I didn't remember. How could one remember a nonexistent event that you foresee coming with no fact to back up?
Also retirements won't make a difference? Not sure I understand what you mean by that. If you mean it won't make a difference in how many need to be hired, then I have never heard such a naive (for lack of a better word) statement. For every one that retires is another one they need to replace, but surely you should already know that.
If your entire post was a joke or sarcastic that I didn't pick up on (which I'm starting to think is the only possible solution) then I apologize.

United has changed is hiring forecast about 3 times in the last few months. It means they don't know how many pilots they want either.

Hello,

Im starting class in December. I just met ATP Requirements. I have 260 FW PIC hours. Many of my hours are helicopters. About 50 of that FWPIC is also dual received. (Getting instrument rating and such) Does skywest care about that 50 FWPIC also being Dual received? Or do they just want the FAA minimums? Thanks.

Good question. I'm no authority on the subject but I can imagine that given SkyWest is a regional carrier that isn't looking pilots based on competitive times, if you have a class date already, just meeting the FAA minimums should be enough. I'd contact a recruiter to confirm.

I saw a chart somewhere recently that showed about 40% of new hires at UAL last year were from Skywest and Express Jet. I have a buddy at UAL (been there 18 years) who told me that Skywest is highly regarded there and that he hadn't seen the pie chart I mentioned but that "a lot" of guys hired at UAL were from Skywest.

I would say you're fine, most people have PiC time that is also dual received. If you got a class date someone verified your logbook. Contact your recruiter if you're concerned so you don't stress about it

Of the 78% that were civilians, Skywest was only 20% of those hired. So, that would be 15.6% of UA pilots come from Skywest.
Xjt was 36%.
