An IF NEEDED slip cannot violate any of the PWA rules. Only a YS can waive contractual time limits.
If you YS SC, they can only assign you that time as a YS. You'll YS SC start times between x and y hours. No. They can't give you whatever you want if you YS and they can't give you anything.

I don't have personal anecdite for this situation for a SC, but I aboslutely do for trip covereage. There is no mechanism in the contract that differentiates between the two. An "If Needed" is a YS IF you are, in fact, needed (as delineated in my earlier post), which it seems by what he wrote that he was.
20Fathoms, call CS and ask if you were identified as "needed" on the "Short Call Management List". And then ask them why your "If needed" was not honored. It doesn't matter if they have to unwind 20 other assigments and re-notify 19 people. It must be done properly. IF you were needed, and they don't fix it, call the CPO. Even if they are closed, there is a CP on call. I ahve called them on a Sunday evening before and made them fix it. Good Luck.

My understanding was the first 10 hours are officially rest. You can't break rest except with a slip that essentially says you are rested for XYZ assignment and are asking for that assignment. This one hasn't been an issue for me because I preference the later SCs. Happy to be corrected but if needed doesn't constitue a specific request.

YS for a specific report time (trip) yes, but if needed for SC is different. A 0600 SC would violate the 10 hour rest and the rest is broken at midnight automatically, no? A trip request tells CS you will be rested for a specific report. Are we saying the same is true for a SC and that you are rested for the eventual 16 hour day of RAP plus duty? And that our personal rest was initiated at 2000 or earlier the evening before? Then do we need to report our start and end of rest? I'm not looking to complicate this but wondering how the legalese is worked out.

This is not correct. SRH "Preference Qualifiers If Needed to Fly or for Short Call" (Most recent edition page 65): "...the preference is treated identially to a YS and the pilot's qualifiers and quantifiers will be considered..." Also the last paragraph on page 66.

I guess we can add SC to the list
.Edit: Thanks for the specific SRH reference as well.

Thanks Fangs, too late for this one (didn’t get used thankfully) but will keep that in mind for next time. Unfortunately I’m sure there will be a next time as barely a month goes by where I don’t have to call CS to fix something. Just in the last few months I’ve had them mess up PB days, reroute pay, GS coding, and sick time deductions.
I guess we can add SC to the list
