The problem is, as short as they are, there are still no openings in MSP or DTW, and even worse, the captain openings being created by the few that have bid to NYC have not been backfilled in quite a while, on either airplane. Meanwhile, SkyWest has taken over one of our old crew rooms and bag rooms in DTW (and are building a large hangar) GoJet has taken over other space as well as some of our management office space. And our management keeps encouraging people to bid to New York for better schedules (that really aren't better commuting wise except for possibly being off reserve)

Any tips/advice for approaching these "odd ethical questions" one could expect in an interview. First that comes to mind is "Captain wants you to make an announcement to passengers regarding weather delay when its really a maintenance issue"
Seems like any sort of ethical person would announce a maintenance issue instead and disregard captains request to blatantly lie?
Thanks in advance for any pointers

I have asked union reps and company management at both the Msp and Dtw questions regarding staffing for both bases. ALPA J.A. Flat out ignored my questions and didn't respond to my e-mail, but another rep did. His response was I don't know and I don't think that they know. At both lunch events I asked management during the q&a and all I was told is the bases will remain, but they are allowing them to shrink via attrition. I then asked to what level. Their response was "I'm not sure. Anyone else have any questions"? They quickly got away from this question. I'm not sure why the smoke screen. Maybe it's as simple as not discouraging the hiring efforts.
I think the 'plan' changes daily.

Actually there were 3-4 July new hires who picked up DTW 200 as secondary vacancies on the 16-04. They are moving to DTW from NY in Dec or Jan as I recall. I suspect that was due to some guys leaving DTW to upgrade in NYC.

Wonder how much bigger NYC will get at this point. There's only so much flying that can be done there (although if they could triple the blast fence I think they would)

its not always just like filling a cup...sometimes its other aircraft that they'd rather deploy elsewhere.

Still, Delta HAD to interview all of us. We weren't prescreened and called like the guys off the street. How many had a resume in for years with no call and then suddenly got interviewed through the SSP? Of course we don't have the high pass rate that off the street does. It doesn't make us less of a pilot or less qualified to fly Delta passengers, it just means they don't feel we are a good fit with mainline Delta culture even if we excel at 9e.
