Yup, I'm now more surprised when they actually get it right. Another new one was having a GS rejected by scheduling due to a "rest issue," because the scheduler didn't drop the reserve assignment they had given me before I was called for the GS. Called and got it fixed but there is clearly a lack of knowledge/experience in scheduling right now. Gotta watch them close.

So, in my monthly post of "how it used to be at NWA", the schedulers there had a minimum of 10 years in with the Company before they could transfer to the scheduler position. It paid well, and was a coveted position. No crew tracking, a number of schedluers were "crew coordinators" for during trip issues, but there was no functional difference. Most of the people you spoke with on the phone were over 20 years in, and beleive me, they knew the NWA contract better than you did. Most were legit, though, and if you knew your stuff there weren't a lot of issues. Some were very nice, and one in particular would have everyone sitting reserve in MSP over to their home on Thansgiving and Xmas for kind of a pot luck dinner, but she cooked the turkey and ham.

Quick question- I called in fatigued for a reserve rotation and gave a rested/ready time of 1700. Initially my schedule said that I would go back on LC at 1701, so my thinking was the earliest assignment they could give me was 1101 tomorrow. Now they put a rotation on my schedule (I have not acknowledged it) for tomorrow that reports at 0715. Are they just baiting me to see if I'll take it? Or am I still on LC even though I'm within my rest window for the fatigue call?

This is a grey area that I’ve been wondering about. I’ve seen fatigue calls where the pilot stays on LC but just isn’t eligible to report for any assignment until their R&R time. On reserve I don’t know if the company is required to actually put you into rest or just release you from duty. If they do put you into rest and the rest is less than 24 hours then that is not considered a non-fly day, so you can’t be made to report before 18 hours from the end of rest. I’d probably ask this question on the scheduling FB page or even call the 117 helpline to get more official guidance.
Agree with Tennis....PWA is specific and says a non-fly days is a 24hr period, so unless you gave them a ready time after needing 24hrs of rest, then you aren't coming off a non-fly day, therefore the PWA sections that talk about starting a rotation or SC as early as 10 hours as long as it was assinged NLT 12hrs before are not in play in this scenario.

So calling a fatigue-driven rest period a LC period for PWA purposes is dubious, unless as tennis and DWC point out, your rest window happens to exceed 23:59, and the rest period morphs into a non-fly day.

Yes, crew scheduling was trying to bait me into the assignment. I called them and said I believed it was an illegal assignment, and after putting me on hold for 3-5 minutes the scheduler came back and said the rotation had been removed from my schedule. No questions asked or any pushback at all.
