Reserve for Dummies

It’s a solid strategy to “strand” a single day, or two, at the end of a month. I do it all the time.
P.S. I’m 100% sure on this one 😂
Not 100 percent sure but I believe the ambiguity is removed when doing the beginning of the month. For example if you end the month prior on a single reserve day, you can do a block of 2 to start the next month. However you couldn’t end the month prior on X days and do less than a 3 day block start the month.

That sounds right to me. Check out John F Bells's Reserve Line Simulator. It'll let you know if the schedule you want is legal or not. I never bid reserve without it.

I've been bidding reserve over 50% of the time for a decade. I still use the reserve line simulator every month to ensure I don't screw myself. Just leave it running in the background on your computer...it's that important lol.

Another question, does velvet reduce the number of reserve days in the month from 31 to 29 or does it count as two X days? I forgot I had put in for velvet and now I have to work it in to my schedule.

When using this simulator, does Velvet count as a "W" or something else?

Question.
If I were able to pickup a multiday green slip starting on my last day of reserve that was more than 18 hours from report would that still count as an F#1? or does it have to be within 18 hours?
And, to be clear an F#1 does not count against my G#1? In other words, I get an F#1 then am I on G#2 when I pickup my next green slip?

Edit: Actually I don’t even think they will code it as F if it’s not within the 18 window, so it would just be GS#1

Just going off memory but I believe you would not get the credit for day one if it’s over 18 hrs notice. Also no PB day for that day. F #1 counts as GS #1 so you’d be back of the line for GS#2.

this has happened to me before, but I was on SC at the time. They could have just assigned it to me “for free”, but I got it as an F#1.
Just one less PB day.

I would think if he’s getting an ARCOS call for a Gs on his last day, it would be coded as an #1, and in his scenario, it would all pay above guarantee.

An OOBGS (H Code) that reports on a LC day always pays the first duty period above reserve guarantee no matter how far out it is assigned. There is a J code which is OOBGS with less than 18 hours to report, but that is functionally irrelevant since it will pay exactly the same as the H code.
