24 hours out you are not contactable and you’re in rest if assigned.

True, then it's 18 hours out because inside that there's no way to be assigned a trip on LC. They said LC. A rest assignment means you are NC also.

So I'm on long call today and got awarded SC tomorrow afternoon, but they called me at 3am to assign me a trip that starts tomorrow morning (more than 24hrs out from when I was called).

Not sure if that's a question? If it is, here's the answer: When you are assigned SC you are still on LC until 18 hours prior to the start of SC. At any point while you are still on LC scheduling can alter your schedule. This of course still requires proper notification from scheduling, and if they are assigning you a rotation then a live scheduler must call you.

So to sum up - a future assignment of SC or a rotation isn't actually locked in until you enter your PWA-mandated rest period prior to report time. That's not to say that scheduling can't or won't try to make changes to your schedule once you are in rest, but anything they do will blow up in their face because you aren't notified of anything. I've had this happen a couple of times where within 18 hours of a SC period they tried to remove it and put me into 30 hours rest. Each time scheduling did that it ended up costing them 4-5 days of LC availability by they time they finally sorted things out.

Technically your short call isn’t locked in until you sit it. They’re welcome to remove it at any point with no penalty. If they remove it the minute prior, you’re simply back on an 18-hours leash.

Similar to rotations. You can be removed as a reserve at any time from a rotation prior to report. At least with rotations, if you’re unaware and report anyway, you’re due suit up pay. Not so much for a removed short call.

I’ve been paid for SC periods improperly removed within 18 hours. They have no way to notify you and I’ve always made the argument that I started SC at the assigned time because I was never notified of anything different. Even sitting 1 minute of SC warrants SCC paid if unused.

Thank you both for the info. Hypothetically if something pops up on OT today, could I YS into it to get out of this abomination of a trip I have tomorrow?

Unfortunately no. You could have GS with 10 hours notice for a trip today to bump it off your schedule. It would only pay today's block above guarantee
